Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation to kill or shrink cancer cells. Charged particles, x-rays and gamma rays are radiations used for killing the cancer cells. The radiation therapy can be given through an external beam, (using a machine called a linear accelerator) or internally (brachytherapy).
The Radiation Oncology Department at M.N. Budhrani Cancer Institute, Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital is a forerunner in the field of Cancer treatment, research and education. Radiation Oncology Department was started on November 24th, 1995 with Theratron 780C Cobalt Machine and upgraded with Varian Ximatron Planning Simulator, Varian Clinac 2300CD Dual energy linac and Nucletron Ir-192 HDR Brachytherapy machine in 1997. Till date, 20000 Cancer patients have been treated with Radiotherapy. the Department is running D.N.B. Radiotherapy Teaching program from 2011 and till date many students have passed, and many students are studying.
At M. N. Budhrani Cancer Institute, our physicians plan meticulously to minimize the chance for any side effects. Our expert team of Physicists and Therapists ensure complete safety while performing the radiation therapies with highly sophisticated equipment and computers. An Oncologist may prescribe radiation therapy before, during, or post-surgery depending on the treatment strategy devised collaboratively by medical team. Our team of expert oncologists starts the design for each patient’s complete, personalized treatment plan with a simulation. The simulation begins by using detailed imaging scans to determine the location, size, and shape of the tumor in the body. Physicist generates computerized treatment plan using advanced algorithm for treatment delivery. Therapists deliver treatment accurately with 3D image guidance on machine.
Now, with cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise encompassing the full spectrum of Oncology services, this Department is committed to offering the best services at the most affordable prices.
Radiotherapy Department is equipped with state- of- the- art Radiotherapy technology for advance radiotherapy treatments. Department is equipped with two Medical Linear accelerators for external beam therapy, one High dose rate Brachytherapy machine.
Elekta Synergy, a fully digital linear accelerator brings 3D image guidance into the treatment set up process. The system is equipped with imaging tools that help clinicians visualize tumor targets and normal tissue, and their movement between and during fractions. The integration of this technology in the Elekta Synergy gantry enables physicians to perform imaging with the patient in the treatment position at the time of treatment, to optimize patient setup before therapy.
Key imaging tools include 2D and 3D volumetric cone-beam imaging for soft tissue visualization; 2D real-time, fluoroscopic-like imaging for targets that move frequently; and 2D kV imaging for standard and orthogonal planar imaging. Elekta Synergy also features sophisticated ultra-low leakage field shaping with a fully integrated multileaf collimator, in addition to a 40 x 40 cm uninterrupted field size to simplify and refine treatment of larger-field targets. System is capable to deliver the 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and SRS treatments.
Elekta Synergy Platform, a fully digital linear accelerator also features sophisticated ultra-conformal field shaping with a fully integrated multileaf collimator, in addition to a 40 x 40 cm uninterrupted field size to simplify and refine treatment of larger-field targets. Imaging tool iViewGT™ (EPID) provides pristine MV images for real-time treatment verification in the treatment position. System is capable to deliver the 3DCRT, IMRT treatments.
